Not really. I mean, it's "bunch of misfits on a mission" but there's less tension between the characters because everyone already knows everyone else (except for Rosemary). Everyone also has a Big Bad Secret of sorts, which occasionally is neither big not bad nor really secret. Less angst. More happiness.
It's got AIs and aliens with personality disorders.
I didn't really like Six of Crows but I love this book.

It reminded me of an amalgamation of both Farscape and Firefly. In other words, if you liked those TV shows, you might find this enjoyable. There was very good world building, good alien characters and engaging story line.

It's not remotely like Six of Crows, in my opinion. Six of Crows has excellent pacing and a super engaging plot. This book is slow paced and has a very loosely tied together 'plot' (string of random events happening).
Michael Albaugh
Very much like the series Firefly.

I loved Six of Crows but very-much disliked Small Angry Planet. For me Six of Crows was full of genuine human characters, compared to the under-developed cardboard characters of the latter. The book has received a lot of love though, so you may like it! Just don't look for emotional realism in Angry Planet, which Crows has in spades! P.S. I love Firefly because the characters seem real, so I only see very superficial similarities to Angry Planet (they are both set on junky spaceships is the only similarity I can see) ...

Less of a heist book the Six of Crows was. Same with the Firefly comparison. It does compare to them in that it is an ensemble. Not so much about any one person's experience as all of them together. I really liked the charters, they were distinct and fun to read about without being to cliche.

It is similar in the sense that at it's core there is a strong found family aspect. But where Six of Crows is really focused on a heist, Long Way is more focused on the characters themselves. The plot itself is loose, but it is also not really the point. The characters and their very unique and fleshed out alien cultures are more the point. If you need explosions, high action, and fast pacing to ring your bells, this may not be exactly what you are looking for.

Funny thing. I recently read Six of Crows and made the same connection (which was surprising to me, because I read this book a long time ago). Six of Crows reminded me a lot of this book. The atmosphere, the mood - it's related. The two books are quite different but both have this feelgood vibe to them, where you really enjoy the banter between characters. This feeling, that the author really wants you to enjoy the ride.

I don't know about Six of Crows, but there is a strong ST:Voyager influence IMHO.
