Goodreads asked Laura Drewry:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Laura Drewry I don't think I can narrow it down to just one best thing. We get to create characters, we get to decide what makes these characters awesome, what struggles they'll have to face and what they're going to do or say to make those circumstances better or worse. Well, okay, that doesn't happen all the time. Sometimes characters take control and refuse to do or say what we want, but that's fun, too. LOL We get to reach out to readers, to hopefully touch at least one person to let them know they're not alone, that whatever she is feeling is being felt by someone else. If we do this well enough, we're giving the reader a few hours of escape; a few hours where she can dive into the lives of these characters and cheer them on to the end.

I can't think of a single bad thing about being a writer. It's a good gig.
