What is Sophie's problem? Why is she so stupidly stubborn? Why do people fall in love with Charles? I JUST DON'T GET IT!!!

Orinoco Womble (tidy bag and all) People can be very stubborn about their beliefs. There are people who cannot accept the death of a loved one (see all the rumors about Elvis still being alive), and no matter how much evidence piles up to the contrary they continue to think it's a lie.
Charles is a kind, intelligent, gentle man who does his best for Sophie at all times, even when he disagrees with her. He would never type anything in all caps.
Rebecca lucy Sanchez This is one of the most beautiful books I have ever read...... I'm an adult!
Debbie It's true that she's stubborn in the face of little evidence. Charles gently points that out to her. I think her persistence comes from the conviction that the reasons people have for thinking her wrong are based in their underestimation of both her as a child and her mother as a woman. Those are not reasons to reject what she's claiming. I think Charles is lovable because he loves, accepts and respects Sophie, and doesn't limit her in the way other adults always try to. One thing I don't agree with at all is the claim that no-one could be raised by Charles and not be polite, given that both he and Sophie are subsequently often not at all polite. :)
Michael King I didn't much care for this book either. Forced myself to finish it. The last few chapters kind of kicked in a little and I found myself tearing up at the very end. Overall though not one I decided to keep and not one I would recommend.
Adrienne First of all, I agree but I like her character. She knows what she wants. So there's no need to be rude and ask THOSE stupid questions. Never question a character. Also, don't forget that Charles is unexpectedly rich but is very modest about it. He doesn't even bring it up!
