I hope you don't find me annoying, but I am now 100 pages into The Forbidden Wish, and one thing has me wondering... Where exactly IS Parthenia? Given the lack of coastline in most of the Mid-East, my best guess was that it is somewhere on the coast of North Africa. Wikipedia says a Roman province of Partenia lay where Algiers is, but I see no river there today, unless it dried up since the story's time. Am I close?
