I felt this way throughout the whole series, never wavered. Something about Maven just never really interested me in knowing if anything romantic would become of him and Mare. I know that some of the reviews talk about how "we don't really know much about Maven" or "there is so much to discover about him as a person", but all in all I think that if he were able to be changed and become "normal" that Mare and Maven would become good friends. Kinda like her and Kilorn! Maven would realize that his obsession was always his mother in his head and that he doesn't actually see her as someone he wants romantically. Even Mare, as I took it, loved the sweet boy that she knew was inside, but I don't think it was ever a romantic kind of love.

To me, Cal always felt like the best choice, someone I personally would choose! I enjoy how much I relate to his character personally. The books do tell us a lot about Cal, but I would like to know who is he when he's not in battle 24/7? I want to know what that looks like. What his and Mare's relationship is like when they don't have a war or Maven to bound them together.

To me, Mare and Cal are a perfect match! Ones weakness is the others strength! Example, Cal's indecisive while Mare knows what she wants and does not hesitate. My own relationship in real life is like this which is probably why I ship Cal and Mare together. They are stronger together! (less)
