(view spoiler)[I greatly enjoyed your book, from the very outset right through to the bittersweet end. The only thing that struck me as a bit "off" was that there would be an English-speaking "non-conformist" (Aussteiger) in the middle of a German forest... even though I realised that he was just a figment of Peggy's imagination and a powerful coping mechanism. Perhaps it is because I am a germanophone that I found it "odd"?! (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[I'm so pleased you enjoyed it, and thanks for your question. Since Reuben is created from Peggy's imagination, she created the kind of man she already knew - someone a little like her father or his friends - all of them 'non-conformists'. And English-speaking because it didn't occur to her brain to create anything else - she needed someone she could communicate with.
Thanks, again.

Hi I'm just reading Our endless Numbered Days (btw, now also listening to Iron & Wine, too!) : I was eight in '76 (and living in London) and only a few pages in the descriptions of that year really resonate with me. I was wondering if you were writing this from memory or reportage?

Hi Claire-
I just finished this book for my book club but I did have a clarifying question as well....
Who held the original knowledge of die Hutte? I think Oliver had originally told James about its location but then James relayed the "magical" qualities (if you will) to Peggy without having ever been there? Also, where was it in relation to her home- she lived in London but die Hutte was in Germany? thanks!!

I will have to read your first book soon. Well happy reading and happy writting. I have to ask you a question to post this - Where do U get your inspiration from when writting your stories. Enjoy your day, From Colleen.
