Hi I'm just reading Our endless Numbered Days (btw, now also listening to Iron & Wine, too!) : I was eight in '76 (and living in London) and only a few pages in the descriptions of that year really resonate with me. I was wondering if you were writing this from memory or reportage?

Claire Fuller Hello! The heat of that year is mostly from memory, but the rest of the book is from research. I was nine in 1976 (just a little older than Peggy), and that summer is still very vivid for me. However, I didn't live in London, but in rural Oxfordshire, so the place is different, although I spent a lot of time outdoors, as Peggy does.

I just finished Our Endless Numbered Days...it was beautifully written. It's dark, but when it's written from Peggy's innocent, brainwashed point-of-view, it is almost sweet. I found myself reading between the lines. Coming from the psychological POV of an 8-15 year old whose sole source of survival is her own father...did you intend her inventing Reuben as a way to cope with the sexual abuse from her father?
