Sophie
Sophie asked Kate DiCamillo:

What would you say is the most important thing to consider when writing for children?

Kate DiCamillo It's the same thing that is important for all of writing, I think: to tell a story with the whole of yourself.

Lillith Fleischauer
Lillith Fleischauer asked Kate DiCamillo:

When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

Janet Aljunaidi
Janet Aljunaidi asked Kate DiCamillo:

My 12-yr-old wrote that she loved your characters because "None of them are perfect, but they all mean well. Like the preacher tries hard to be a good dad, but he's always busy with being a preacher." Do your characters show up in your head with a flaw already or as the story comes out the flaw(s) reveal themselves? Thank you!

Melinda
Melinda asked Kate DiCamillo:

I am a huge fan of your books and my pre-k loves Mercy Watson. They ask daily if you've "made" a new Mercy Watson book yet. Thank you for those stories! What do you feel is your biggest challenge as the National Ambassador for Young People's Literature? Thank you again for such wonderful stories and for taking the time to answer our questions.
