Many of your books have animals as main characters or as a strong driving force of the plot. What is it about animals that you find makes them a good way to tell your stories?

Kate DiCamillo Hi Emily. I was just talking with a friend about this yesterday. I don't purposely think: I am going to use an animal in this story. Rather, the animals just show up. That said, I do find that we as readers are a little more likely to trust an animal protagonist. We are more inclined to open our hearts to them.
