Do you get any inspiration from H. P. Lovecraft?

David Wong Any horror author who answers "no" to this is lying, or else they just don't know who HP Lovecraft is. But yeah probably me more than most, the JDATE universe seems to be predicated on the idea that these dark cosmic forces are real, but instead of being evil they're just kind of dumb and incompetent, like bratty children. Which I happen to think is much scarier.

Sorry if this has been asked before but, how did you craft your writing style? Does it just come naturally or does it take a lot of revision, was there anything that inspired it? I remember stumbling on a cracked article you wrote and falling in love with how you write, which obviously lead me to your books.

Going through JDATE3 right now. The bits of philosophical meandering on the universe and what it means to be a living breathing carbon structure have a way of impacting you when you read them. Even if it's a conclusion you've come to before or something you've thought late and night, having to read it in context sort of forces you to see it all again. Do you ever need to "sit it out a while" after writing those parts?
