Hello EJ! Were you thinking of "friend with Benefits" concept/relationship while you're writing about Merry and Trent in My American Duchess? And if you were, were you thinking that this is a new concept or it's been around for a long time, and not just the 21st century thing? And why?

Eloisa James I wasn't thinking of it in those terms, but yes! The concept has been around a long time, and was particularly prevalent, I would imagine, in the days when most marriages were arranged for reasons of money and title. I think that idea was a good way for Trent to ease into the idea that he was actually desperately in love—a concept he was not at all comfortable with!

I’ve noticed that in many historical romances, authors will mention or have a plot point revolve around a supporting character’s queerness, but I’ve never seen an author who does historical romances write a HEA for a gay or lesbian character. Would you ever consider writing a queer historical romance?
