Was anyone else caught off guard by the relationship between Thaniel and Mori? It came as a complete surprise to me; so much so that I had to reread the part where it came to fruition a couple times to make sure I wasn't misunderstanding. The lack of emotional description or build-up to it, or any reaction whatsoever by either character (relief, confusion, surprise), made this the most jarring part of the story for me

I thought there were references in Thaniel's character too (he'd never thought of himself as getting married, and Annabel seemed to hint at it when she asked whether there wasn't someone else). Thought it was very beautifully built up and so satisfying. (less)
