J.C. Cauthon
J.C. Cauthon asked Lindsay Buroker:

First off, I would love to tell you that I thoroughly enjoy your books. As a writer myself, I am struggling to plan out an entire series for a current fantasy collection I am working on. When you plan out and set up your book series, do you outline each one first, then write out the initial drafts, or do you outline and draft each book individually, letting the story flow from one book to the next?

Lindsay Buroker Hi, JC! Sorry for the slow response. I didn't see this question here.

I think it's a good idea to know how the series will end before you start writing, especially if you plan on having a big arc going with mysteries and character secrets that will gradually be revealed over the course of the series. I don't usually plot out the individual books more than one book in advance, because things tend to deviate from the outlines as I write. You want to give yourself the leeway to explore new ideas as they come up.

Hope that helps!
