Our school chose this book as one to be read by families over a month long period. All grades K-5 read this book; parents read aloud to children as research has been positive regarding the benefits of reading together. I feel it was an appropriate choice.

Depending on the circumstances, I'd say about 8+. I read this book when I was 13 or 14 and, though it was not challenging for me, I really enjoyed it. I think that even some adults would love to read this. Simple vocabulary most of the time, so I think it's good for most children, but the heavy topics bring it up to ages 8+.

This is a great book for a 4th grade reader. I think ages 9 and up would easily understand the premise.
