Goodreads asked Emily Carpenter:

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Emily Carpenter Being a writer allows you to create worlds and characters and situations and then… BAM… manipulate them in a way that, to be honest, might get you into really big trouble in real life. I love creating a story in my head and then having the privilege of living there for the next year or so. I love creating these people, with very real hopes and dreams and flaws, who desperately want to change their worlds… who are often so much braver than I am in facing their problems. Sometimes, I lie in bed at night and disappear myself into that alternate world. Often, it's a world that's easier to navigate than the real one.
