Alma Djedovic asked David Wong:

Most of your articles on Cracked are sort of self-helpish. You cover a lot of topics ranging from bullying, depression and such. I just wonder what inspires you to write about those things? As someone who's been continually dealt bad cards in life, it's nice to read these things and I always look forward to your articles. I enjoyed your books as well, and I know I'm going to devour FVaFS when I get my hands on it.

David Wong Every comedian or humorist who works in this subject does it for the same reason: Because they themselves seek out a lot of that kind of writing/commentary in order to help themselves. I think it's true of Louis C.K. and Dan Harmon (not that I'm comparing myself to those guys, they're just names internet people know) and lots of other people who work in that profound, "meaning of life" type stuff. I've been reading books and articles like that since I was a teenager, because I was a messed up kid and wanted help making sense of the world.

Well, you wind up writing what you're a fan of, and I like the thought of helping other people in the situation I was in.
