Goodreads asked Lloyd Blake:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Lloyd Blake Write something that you are passionate about or can give a new angle on a subject matter. You have to remember there are no new themes in writing, everything has been done before, but you have to inject an added dimension or viewpoint. In my opinion this might sound strange as a writer, but whilst you are writing don't read other writers work because you can start to subconsciously imitate their style and become slightly intimidated by their prose.
The best thing to do whilst you are in the writing phase is to research your subject matter whether that be internet research or going to the library or visiting places where your novel is set.
Also enjoy what you are writing about. You know your novel is not going to be any good if you are personally not enjoying the story you are creating.
