Jamie asked Scott Sigler:

I read Infected a few years ago. It reminded me a bit of Crichton (in some ways). What other horror authors were/are your favorites? Who made you keep the lights on while reading or made you lay the book down so you could remind yourself it was just a story? I had to do this with Infected a few times!

Scott Sigler Crichton was a big influence on me, so I'm not surprised at all you see his style and tone resonate in my work. The other hard-science/horror author(s) that moved me toward my style are Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child. Their book RELIC was pivotal in getting me to where I am today. Child's, Preston's and Crichton's work all taught me that I could use real science to create plausible horror.

As for making me read with the lights on, it's King. His novel IT scared the bejesus out of me, at least until the last 200 pages or so. King has the style, the other three have the substance, and the four of them combined (along with Jack London and Anne McCaffrey) are my biggest influences.
