I recently picked it back up with book 2 and am now almost finished with book 5.

I think that Child did get better as compared to the first book, but so far none of the books were really good--just average reads for me (I've given them all 3s, even the first one to be generous).

Some better series examples along the same lines, I'd recommend John Sandford's "Prey" series, John Lescroart's "Dismas Hardy" series, and especially Michael Connelly's "Bosch" series, which is by far the best of the bunch.(less)
