Gladys Quintal asked Christopher Rice:

I hate that you cannot edit your answers, I noticed typos in mine as well...... I would like to know if you have read any of your mother's books (apart from the mum's porn you attempted to read on your radio show! That was hilarious btw) and do you think having famous parents has helped your career or actually made you feel as if you have to prove you can do it on your own?

Christopher Rice It's absolutely helped, in ways too numerous to count. It's incredibly, almost unbearably difficult to get a first novel published. I had no idea how hard it was until I was older, until I made friends with other writers - many of them good, talented writers - who were struggling day in and day out to get their work seen. Only then did the extent of my privilege become clear to me. And there have been times in my career when I've struggled. When the fuel from that last name privilege seemed to run out suddenly, when books didn't perform up to expectations. It's a brutal business. I have great respect for Joe Hill. If I had it all to do over again, maybe I would do it his way. Working quietly under a pen-name, honing my craft. But I had what you might call an outsized personality, especially in my twenties, and a hunger for the spotlight.
