How do you deal with writer’s block?

Colin R. Parsons I was told years ago, by my creative writing teacher Roy Duncan (long gone, sadly) 'Writer's Block is a myth.' He told me that whatever I was stuck on...just take the story in a different direction. I was actually in the middle of writing something at the time, but couldn't continue. I was about to open a door in the story. 'Don't open the door,' Mr Duncan explained, 'turn around and walk up the steps.'
I said, I didn't have steps. He said, 'you have now - follow another path he meant. It worked for me and Its the way I do it know.
