Hands gripped and tore at his body, pulling him deeper into the grave. He tried to resist, but finally realised - he was already dead!

The idea for D.I.S.C. Direct Interface Shadow Control, just came to me one day. But, the idea of a character like Joseph Lanes, a bullied soul, thrust into Ether World, and then having the courage to fight with a group of his new friends. D.I.S.C. is his mentor, and the adventure is fast, and exciting! I didn't get bullied at school, but a lot of my friends did, and I wanted to write about a person who manages to overcome this. Enjoy.

I think the world of Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book. Can you imagine inside the graveyard - all those lost souls trying to help a mortal? I would be one of the dead, and the adventure to save Bod, would be my top priority.

I've got quite a few I want to read this summer. Airborn by Kenneth Oppel - Demon Road by Derek Landy - Grave Peril by Jim Butcher, and Misery by Stephen King.

This is a really great question. Thinking about it now, I remember something happened quite a few years ago... I'm talking thirty-years ago, when I was first married. It was a time long before mobile phones. We only had one phone in the house, and, at the time, I couldn't afford to put another phone upstairs. So, when we went to be - I would stretch the telephone as far as I could on the cable. The phone would only reach, halfway up the stairs.
So, one night, maybe about one-thirty in the morning... the phone rang! My wife and I were in a deep sleep. Anybody who rings at that time of morning, then, its not normally a good phone call. I eventually came around and realised the phone was ringing (in those days phones would ring until someone answered). I... shot up from bed and dived out onto the landing. I didn't know where I was, and almost fell down the stairs, in my dazed state. I stooped down and clambered for the receiver.
"Hello - Hello," I hissed in a dry voice. Down the line came a rasping tone - a woman's voice.
"Beware the ring... "
"Sorry," I said, "I think you've got the wrong number."
"The ring, beware the ring... " the voice continued. At that quiet time of morning, and on my own on the stairs - I was a-b-s-o-l-u-t-e-l-y terrified. My hands were shaking, and my legs turned to mush. Then I put the phone down, and staggered back to bed, lying there... twitching and turning, and sweating. This is true, and it really happened. I think it would make a great plot for a book

Didn't realise this question was on here, sorry. Inspiration comes from many places. Crank Tech One: DESTRUCTION - my sixth book about a mad robot - the inspiration to write the character came from my washing machine. So, it doesn't matter where it comes from... just as long as it does.
An idea will pop in my head after seeing something - hearing something, or just going with a weird idea. If you feel it... write it down.

This may sound strange, but my favourite fictional couple is Scooby Doo and Shaggy. They may not be a what you would expect me to answer, but none-the-less, I love 'em.
They are always there for each other, and when push comes to shove, they will always find a way out of a dangerous situation. They're also very funny too. I've been a fan since I was a kid.
Definitely Shaggy and Scooby forever.

I'm working on something totally different for me; a detective series. But saying that, I've other projects in the background that I've almost finished too.
I love developing new character's, and it's great because they take on a life of their own. The character's tell the story - the author merely follows the path.

The answer to this is simple, and old advice. You've got to read lots and lots of different books and magazines. The more you read the better your writing becomes. I love what George RR Martin once said. 'Start with short stories and work up to novels. He said something like; 'you can't start learning to climb, by trying to conquer Everest.'

I was told years ago, by my creative writing teacher Roy Duncan (long gone, sadly) 'Writer's Block is a myth.' He told me that whatever I was stuck on...just take the story in a different direction. I was actually in the middle of writing something at the time, but couldn't continue. I was about to open a door in the story. 'Don't open the door,' Mr Duncan explained, 'turn around and walk up the steps.'
I said, I didn't have steps. He said, 'you have now - follow another path he meant. It worked for me and Its the way I do it know.

For me, its that I call the shots. I don't only write books, I run school presentations and workshops too. I've done various jobs before becoming a full time author. I always had someone to answer to - now I'm in charge and I love it.
