His hand at the end when he greets …moreI thought the neighbour was perhaps a wolf, as in Little Red Riding Hood. That is why he was definitely not a man. His hand at the end when he greets the middle sister looks like a paw, and she is the only one who wears a red cape. Also, the wolf in Red Riding Hood grins, which is why the "man" could only smile, and he left no footprints because he would leave tracks instead. I though that might also explain the full moon at the end.
Death works as well though. It is open to interpretation.(less)
