Susannah I thought the neighbour was perhaps a wolf, as in Little Red Riding Hood. That is why he was definitely not a man. His hand at the end when he greets the middle sister looks like a paw, and she is the only one who wears a red cape. Also, the wolf in Red Riding Hood grins, which is why the "man" could only smile, and he left no footprints because he would leave tracks instead. I though that might also explain the full moon at the end.
Death works as well though. It is open to interpretation.

Nico Add a 3rd 'please explain!!' in there from me.
Feeling a little bit dumb because clearly most people got it; I'd really like to understand it too. Thank you :)
Anna-Lisa I can't answer the question but I second it because I didn't get "Our Neighour's House" either....it really would be great if someone could explain it....it annoys me that I don't get it...
