(view spoiler)[Hello Claire.
I was wondering, do you know what happens to Peggy after the book's events? I was worried for example that she might be in trouble with the police after it was proven that Reuben didn't exist. I was also wondering if she would keep the baby.
Finally, how much of what she tells us about Reuben are simply her imagination (dreams perhaps?) and how much really happened?
Thanks. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[Hi John,
Note: This answer contains spoilers!
Firstly thanks so much for reading Our Endless Numbered Days.
I don't mean this as a cop out, but I really believe that books become different things when they're read, so whatever I think might happen to Peggy after the end of the book is no more valid than what you, as a reader, think might happen.
But, having said that, I do have an opinion. I'm sure she would be in trouble with the police if it was proven that Reuben didn't exist. But I also imagine that she wouldn't be prosecuted because of mental incapacity or if she were she would get off because of self defence.
I'm not sure about the baby. I think it would make a much more interesting story if she kept it, and it had reddish hair!
As I'm sure you've worked out, Reuben was created in Peggy's mind to help her through her traumatic experiences. Having researched this, it seems that victims really believe in what they invented. So Reuben was completely out of her imagination, but she believed in him completely. I think most of the things that actually happened (the footprints, the squirrel on the doorstep etc) she did, but didn't realise she was doing them.
I hope that helps!

Claire, Thank you for noticing my review of Unsettled Ground. It was the first time I had read one of your books. I could feel and smell the descriptions of the places Jeanie and Julius lived. Jeanie never lost hope and the desire to make sense of her life. She was an inspiring character. I will look forward to choosing another one of your titles soon. Which do you recommend? Thanks!
