Mare Kinley
Mare Kinley asked:

I liked Camille a thousand times better after her exchange with Richard about sexism. I realize some people will be bothered by some of the ideas voiced in this part. How did other readers feel about it?

Lisa I think her point can be valid if it is an adult woman in question and the situation is carefully considered. When it's a thirteen year old child, I don't agree.
Julie To me that exchange says a lot about how Camille deals with her own trauma, of being raped. It's a whole load of cognitive dissonance. The only way she can be okay and live with what happened to her, she has to believe that it was her own fault. Surrendering control like that, and accepting that there was nothing she could've done is very hard; it can make someone feel powerless. At least if they blame themselves they had power in the situation. It's quite a common respons from people with PTSD from rape (and victims of abuse in general).

Cory I had a similar argument/discussion with a mate (male) of mine. I think it depends on each case and although a lot of people nowadays react negatively to anything that is about "feminism", this was written at a time before that. I think that passage was supposed to show how the protagonist is taking control of her body (this book was about how one lets others do things to you to get what you want and how the intent to harm is either projected outward or inward).
Kristina Cabral Well, I suppose a lot of readers have found sense in it. Because all in all, Flynn's books contain mature content, but they're shouting feminism. She says in her website that she wants to prove that women can be "purposely evil", that we can be villains too. :-) Reviews are on the book site!
