1. Tanya Huff's Valor series (if you want to read paper you'll need to buy the first two as an omnibus these days). It's ongoing.
2. Rachel Bach's Paradox series is a complete trilogy. She uses Urban Fantasy tricks in her space opera and it's genius, romantic, and fun.
We read both of these in my reading group.

If you want some magic and politics mixed in: The Magewars series by Doyle and MaCDonald is an oldie but a goody, may not be available in eBook yet.
If you want somely with more romance and sexitimes then go for Viehl's Bio Rescue or Blade Dancer. (Spin offs of her Stardoc series which is much longer, started off strong, but devolved and is not as good IMHO.)
I also love Lee & Millers Liaden universe, particularly Local Custom which is the most romantic. It can be read as a stand alone.

Dear Mis Carriger, I love your books very much. I especially love (other than the steampunk style) that there are lots and lots of travel involved in many of your books. What do you think as a writer and as a creative person how travel and getting to know other cultures from first hand affected your art? Do you think it is important for artists to travel more?

Hi Gail - I love all of your books, the characters feel alive and not stereotyped (unless you want to think us they are...). Thats the reason I don`t believe Alexias mother to be that brain-plain. No woman as highly superficial as she seems, could be involved with Allessandro and Alexia that long. Is she from Finishing School, too? Is Dimity the mother of Ivy (because they act kind of bloodrelated :))?

Are you going to write another book in the Finishing School series about what happens with Sophronia and Soap? The way Manners & Mutiny ended left me wanting to know what happens to the both of them after the dewan gives Sophronia her new job. Does Sophronia and Soap's relationship grow stronger?
