Can anyone tell me why the title of the book changed from The Seamstress to The Time In Between? (or visa versa, I'm not sure which title is the original one).

Linda Actually, the title isn´t ¨The Seamstress¨. ¨´ costuras¨´ means ¨ seams¨´ or ¨dressmaking (profession)¨, so ¨entre costuras¨ could mean ¨between the seams¨ or refer to the time spent dressmaking. It´s as close a translation as possible. Some things are idiomatic, and don´t translate perfectly, but this is pretty close.
I´m just starting it, but have a feeling that this guy she´s followed is going to run off with her money and jewels, and that it refers to the time she´ll spend figuring out how to survive.

No clue as to why the English translation changed titles. Maybe the author got in touch with the publisher. I notice that the edition entitled ¨¨The Seamstress¨ doesn´t mention the translator´s name.

Sandra Remember this book is originally written in Spanish. It's tittle is "El tiempo entre costuras". That title in English, literally, is: The time between seams.
Some meaning is always lost in the translation. And I always say that they don't translate but interpret and adapt the text to another language.

Ann Brook Jennifer, I don't know which version of the English Language the person submitting below/above uses. Here in England, the original home of the English language generally used today, "Seamstress" can also be correctly termed as "Dressmaker". The original title in Spanish more closely translates as "The Seamstress" (the English version) rather than the American version of "The Time Between", a title which has me totally confused. But by whatever title I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. If I'm to be totally honest, my enjoyment could be related to some familiarity with both Spain and Morocco ?

PSUDST Sometimes books are given different titles to accommodate the marketing styles/needs of the country in which it is being released. For instance, "The Book of Negroes" is known as such in Canada, where the author is from however, the same book is called "Someone Knows My Name" in the U.S.
