Lisa As a parent, I was reading this, and was wondering if I'd let my 11 year old son read it. I think it was pretty okay with the exception of one part. It gets pretty descriptive in one part while talking about breeding, particularly mentioning a certain male body part (which is named) being inserted into a female body part in alligators. If your kid already knows about the birds and bees this will probably just cause a giggle fest, if not, they now will. Something, I'm sure, every parent would like to be forewarned on.
Bob Buchko Possibly. It has some swearing and definitely some gore and violence. Nothing sexual in it, though. It might be a little bit mature for a ten year old, but it's a close call.
Erin The first time I read this book I was about 10. I remember learning some new words when I read it. I think a lot of it went over my head. I read it a second time now that I'm in my thirties, I would still let my younger self read it.
Jason M Smith I was about 10 when I read this book. I loved the movie when it came out and wanted more. So I got a copy and ran through it. I would credit this book with started me down the lifelong path of reading.

You'll have to judge the relative maturity of the 10-year-old at hand. But if they can read this book, I see no reason they shouldn't. My oldest will be 10 in a couple years, and I would love for him to have the same experience with this book that I did.
Erin yes i read this when i was around 10 and i wasn't scared. I did get grossed out by some of the deaths though. There was nothing sexual about this book that i can remember but there is lots of cussing and i know some parents don't like their kids hearing or reading cuss words. i would say that a very mature 10 year old could read this because i was a very mature kid when i read this and i'd already heard all the words that were said and the gore didn't bother me as much as it would have if i hadn't watched so many pg-13 movies.
hope this helps
:)
Stephanie Schmitt I would think it's appropriate for a mature 10 year old. The gore described isn't worse than the movie and there aren't any sexual elements that I can recall. I think it could get either boring or too detailed for a 10 year old, but if they read a lot there is no harm in giving it a try!
Nora schenk I havent read this book, (Yet ;) ), but I asked a staff member of the library if it was okay for my 11 year-old sister and she said yes, though there might be some violence and everything, she said, since its about dinosaurs, and mostly the carnivores aren't that friendly.
Also she told me that there would be some parts that will not or hardly be understandable for younger people.
I also think it depends on how mature the person is and how much they already know about the 'hard-to-understand-parts'.
My sister, for example, knows a lot about reptilians and stuff. I think she understood the parts with theories or something about that pretty well.
Though she didn't know a lot about the chaos theory, I told her what I knew and she got through it just fine.
in the book store close to our home though, it is marked as a 'thriller'.
are there people here who experienced it as a thriller or scary?
Ismat J Yes I think so as it is fantasy/adventure. It is disputed whether DNA can be preseved and the dinosaurs recreated. Some people don't even believe dinasaurs existed as the great flood of Noah was supposed to have caused the Ice Age with 1 degree drop in temperature but the Ice Age killed off the dinosaurs. There has been dinosaur fossils found in Europe,America and Africa but none in the ME or Asia. It is also believed that the Teradactile couldn't have flown as it was too heavy.
BrainyDaffy34 I wouldn't recommend the book to young children, because it does have intense themes in it
Timothy Morrison a 10 year old will like it, but will not get the bits about chaos theory and reptilian sexuality
nathanel pickeral I'm a 10 year old who is reading Jurassic park and I can't put it down
Eugene Cundiff I read this as a 4th grader, for what it matters.
Baqir I watched the movie when I was ten so I think a 10 year old would be fine. I am normal. I think.
Shelby Well their is some bad words and they talk about getting their skin and organs eaten,so yey.
Kyle I can count on one hand the number of scenes that contain pretty graphic violence. So it's there, but not excessive. I just read it the other day and I don't recall very much in terms of profanity and I'm pretty certain there was zero sexual themes.
