Goodreads asked Reece Butler:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Reece Butler Learn the craft of writing: editors can be hired but writers need to know about character and plot development. Turn off the electronic, other than that connected to a keyboard. Read, read, write, edit, and read some more. Go to different places to experience more than your daily slog: if you only see the same faces and places and hear the same things, it's difficult to think of something new. Save all your receipts for anything related to writing: the books you buy, places you go, partial cost of Internet, costs for research (travel, admission to events)... Most of all, write what you like, so it sings to you: if you are slogging through the reader will know it. And keep your readers in mind all the time -- you are writing these stories for people to read, so give them the best story you can.
