Rick Urban So all those composers who wrote pieces whose titles begin with "Variations on a theme..." have just run out of ideas? Just because this story deals partially with the relationship between an author and a fan of dubious mental health doesn't mean that it is a retread of Misery. In fact, Misery deals with a battle of wills between the protagonist and antagonist of the story that lasts the entire novel, while a similar battle in Finders Keepers ends within the first 30 or so pages, and the novel deals with the long-term repercussions of that battle.
Mark If you are saying this is just Misery redone, you obviously haven't read it. I'm in the process of devouring the book as we speak. It is a fantastic read, and I'm liking the Trilogy so far. I'm a super fan, and he can do no wrong in my eyes, but it's some terrific writing. Don't judge it without reading it.
Sherry Misery was a wonderful story but this is not the same story at all, not even a re-structuring of it. The only common thread is an obsessive fan of a lauded author, but there is really no recycling as per the overall story.
Brad I haven't read the first one, but this one is good enough as a stand alone. I'll go back and read Mr. Mercedes now to flesh out the characters I discovered in this one. I wouldn't agree that he is "recycling old ideas" at all. This is a hearty read, I bought it at Kroger on Thursday, it's now Monday and I can't wait to get home and finish it up tonight...
Krist This is not a book by Stephen King. It's a book by the Stephen King -factory and you feel it on every page, i.m.o.
Nicole Boyd The only thing the same is a couple of characters. It's just the continuation of their stories. I love that he does that. In saying that, this was a weak effort from King. A lot of waffle and little substance until the end, where we get all the books action.
Gatu Bela Sounds like you might want to read the book before forming and sharing your opinions. And pay attention to the Kingdom he's been creating all along.
Marco Baiocco I don't think so. It's a crime story. And it's good.
Paulia BSN-RN Not that he ran out of ideas, more like he had another amazing idea and worked it into this one quite creatively.

Larry Yeah........the guy in the hospital was reminiscence of Carrie, The prison scenes a little of Shawshank, The deranged fan who doesn't like what was done to certain characters....well.......
Phobos *spoilers*. I thought it was a lot like Misery too. I kind of rolled my eyes at the part where someone threatens to burn a manuscript to terrorize the devout fan. That was right out of Misery. I thought it was kind of weird that the fan (Bellamy) was such a blue collar guy but he liked fiction that was in the vein of John Updike. Also, why would a high school kid identify with the "Runner" series since it's so much about Baby Boomers. People under the age of 50 are not this interested in the lives of Boomers, especially high school kids.
Pandora Dude, he's been doing that for at least 15 years now.
