It could be anything. It could be something someone says, something random my husband suggests, something I see during the day, anything. However, a LOT of my stories are inspired by songs. Some are entirely unrelated to the song that inspired it and some follow a sort of storyline that is akin to songs or a collection of songs that have inspired me for that particular story.
Sometimes, it's also just random thoughts or dreams or concepts too. Though music would definitely have to be the key factor in most of my writing, be it songs or instrumental compositions, and the environment helps too.
