Goodreads asked Cynthia J. Faryon:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

Cynthia J. Faryon I owned a restaurant in LaBroquerie Manitoba, and one of my customers hired me to write a couple of regional history books titled "A boy, a farm, a dream..." and "...The Dream". While researching these books, I came across two journals from the 1920s mentioning a black man who was a cook with the Manitoba Dairy Farms. He had told people he was born on a Kentucky farm in 1845 as a slave, and fought as a Canadian in ww1... I did the math.... I figured he was lying, so I had to find out... I found lots of newspaper articles in Winnipeg about the man, and spent 7 years researching him... every time I read one of his outlandish claims it was like he was challenging me to find out the truth.... when I found out he was telling the truth, I just had to find out more.... It's the book my editor is now working on, "The Sandbox Rules" ... once the editing is done, my agent will be finding a publisher for it.
