Cynthia J. Faryon I owned a restaurant in LaBroquerie Manitoba, and one of my customers hired me to write a couple of regional history books titled "A boy, a farm, a dream..." and "...The Dream". While researching these books, I came across two journals from the 1920s mentioning a black man who was a cook with the Manitoba Dairy Farms. He had told people he was born on a Kentucky farm in 1845 as a slave, and fought as a Canadian in ww1... I did the math.... I figured he was lying, so I had to find out... I found lots of newspaper articles in Winnipeg about the man, and spent 7 years researching him... every time I read one of his outlandish claims it was like he was challenging me to find out the truth.... when I found out he was telling the truth, I just had to find out more.... It's the book my editor is now working on, "The Sandbox Rules" ... once the editing is done, my agent will be finding a publisher for it.
Cynthia J. Faryon My mother and my aunt were separated as children in the 1920s in England. They had been abandoned by their parents and put in an orphanage. My aunt had been adopted and my mother was taken out of the orphanage by an Uncle when she was 11. They were separated for 65 years and accidently were reunited by a man in Germany that neither of them ever met. It was such an amazing story I wrote the book about it, named Sisters Torn.... in order to find a publisher I wrote travel reviews, family stories etc., and had them published for free or for $25 each, so I could have a publishing history... After it was published, I was approached by another publisher to write for the Amazing Stories, and then I started writing for Real Justice... I love writing... it's who I am
Cynthia J. Faryon The manuscript I just finished (The Sandbox Rules) has been picked up by my agent and is now being edited for submission. The work is far from done, so I'll be working with the editor for the next 3 months.....It's a true story about a man who was born a slave on a Kentucky farm in 1845 and fought in WW1 as a Canadian at the age of 73... I also have 2 other projects, both historical and revolve around the mid 1800's on Vancouver Island...Both books are in the research stage so I'm spending time taking photos of the areas now and collecting the photos of then, mapping the town and businesses in existence then etc.... One of the books already has the characters, plot, and some of the writing done... the other one hasn't taken shape or direction as yet...
Cynthia J. Faryon write from your heart ... whether it's fiction or non-fiction, I'm never satisfied unless what I've written makes me cry... the editors can help me with the sentence structure and grammar, but I have to feel that emotional response... write for the love of writing... feed your curiosity... then get a publishing history.... I wrote articles for free papers and travel reviews for websites, and volunteered to write ads etc., so I could send publishers a list of published works in order to get my first book published... as soon as that book was published I volunteered to speak in schools, do readings in libraries and anywhere else they would have me... publishers publish books, but writers build their careers... never depend on someone else to do the work for you
Cynthia J. Faryon Writing settles my spirit ... gives me peace... but the best part is meeting the people in my stories, or their families.
Cynthia J. Faryon I don't use the term writer's block at all .... if I can't concentrate, I take a walk, buy a cup of coffee, think of nothing but the breeze, the trees, the taste of the coffee, and taking deep breaths of fresh air.... when I go back to my office and sit at the computer.... it is all there..... if not, then I do research, or edit my other work in progress.... I usually have 3 projects at different stages so there is always something I can work on when the creative part of me is resting.
