Goodreads asked Dave Birchbauer:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Dave Birchbauer Write for yourself. I don't mean being self indulgent. I mean write what's in your heart.

I catch myself worrying about how others might think of what I'm writing. When that happens I freeze up... I can't even make the simplest decisions, each paragraph becomes a struggle. I soon realize the book will never be finished at that pace. I am wondering if that's what happens to all writers.

DON'T WORRY. Write what you feel and feel what you write. If you're in it for money and praise you'll likely be disappointed. But who knows... sometimes it's more fun dreaming about making it big than actually making it big (so they say).

So just have fun.
