Afaf Ahmad asked Katie McGarry:

First, I would like to tell you that I am a huge fan of the Pushing the Limits series. I have had an interest in writing essays since I was 13 and as I grew I developed an interest in writing stories. My question is, what is your advice to young writers who are still trying to find themselves in terms of their writing style? And to those who doubt that they have it in them to write something good?

Katie McGarry Hi Afaf,

Thank you for the question and for reading my books!

My advice to young writers is to not discount themselves because of their age. Write. Write some more. Keep writing. Study the craft of writing. My favorite craft book is John Truby's Anatomy of Story. My favorite online classes are by Margie Lawson (specifically on body language).

As for the doubt, ask any author and they'll tell themselves that they are constantly doubting their ability and the current story they are working on. You just have to push through the doubt.

I'm living proof dreams do come true. You can do this!

Katie
