The books are wayyy better than the TV show. I fell in love with the books first and then started watching the show. They get so far off track after the first season that after book one you're pretty much reading a completely different story line just with the same characters.

The books are really good and in my opinion they are better than the tv series :)

I'm a little shocked by the other responses. I watched the TV show to the very end. I only read the first book. The only reason I finished it is because it was such a quick, easy read. I kept hoping it would get better. In the TV show I found naive and innocent Sookie endearing. Reading the book, I felt I was trapped in an idiots head.

I love them both! The books are great because Sookie is an awesome MC, but I love the show because you get to see more of everyone else. Especially Lafayette, who is my favorite on the show but hardly in the first book. Since the show is loosely based on the book series, and completely veers from it after season 4, its almost a whole different story.

I preferred the tv series, but I watched the show before reading (to be fair I've only watched season 1) and I just finished the first book and was underwhelmed. I think it's a subjective experience.

I already finish all the sookie stackhouse series and was watching the TV Series. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the books are wayyyy more better than the TV series. I dont know why they make the TV series too much different and less interestiing than the book. Once again, it is based on my personal opinion
