Gayle Humphreys Nope, not at all. But none-the-less I found this series compelling. I really enjoyed both Outlander AND the Fever series
Anna Yes and no. There is a similarity because there are Highlanders and the lady time travels. But there are supernatural characters who openly meddle with their lives. the story evokes more of the Twilight series and Greek mythology.
Romance No. It has elements such as time travel but there’s a whole romance subgenre on time travel. Beyond the Highland Mist was written almost 2 decades before Outlander and this book is intended to be sitting firmly in the romance category. Outlander on the other hand was intended to be historical fiction with strong hints of romance. Some responses to your question disregard that. It really should be a question of what you are looking for. The 2 books aren’t meant to be the same type of reading experience. While I thought this average (alas, many older romances do not age well), if you’ve read outlander and are looking for historical fiction with romance, you may be disappointed. If you are looking for a romance that has a trickster (which is unique in the romance genre), then you might enjoy it.
Lucinda S Not even near the quality of writing, story line and character development that Outlander has.. Not even in the same ballpark.
Madalina Nothing like Outlander. I couldn`t finish it. It was far worse than expected...
Holly No, nothing like Outlander, though Gabaldon references stories of fairies and the auld ones that inhabit this book. But there is no history in Moning's book, and the language and characters are laughable; this is a straight-out bodice ripper...think 50 shades in the 1500s. Stick to Gabaldon for Scottish romance/historical fiction. Well worth the wait
Piroska It's like a dumb rip-off. :(
I started it because I loved the Outlander series, but I'm not sure I'm gonna finish it. It has one-dimensional characters and you know what's gonna happen all the time. So far it's not only boring but frustrating as hell.
Andrea Ten times better IMHO
