Melissa Herston asked Susan Mallery:

What makes this book different from all your other books?

Susan Mallery Hi, Melissa. The characters always make my books different, even if there are similar themes. Just like in real life, in my books, each person’s life experiences color their emotions and reactions, taking the story in a unique direction.

In The Girls of Mischief Bay, I had a couple themes in mind while writing. One was motherhood, and the different stages of it. Just starting out, thinking about starting, and how would a stay-at-home mom have to redefine herself after the kids are grown? How does she identify herself not just to the world, but to herself? The other theme is that friendship is timeless and ageless. The three heroines of The Girls of Mischief Bay are different ages, but their friendship transcends the age difference, and I think that's a beautiful thing. :)
