Dale asked Susan Mallery:

Where do you get the ideas for your books? Experience? Or you make them up? Love your books, thanks for the pleasure!

Susan Mallery Hi, Dale! Thank you so much! What a nice thing to say.

Ideas come from everywhere, and my personal experiences are probably the tiniest portion of those inspirations. :) I get ideas from articles I read, conversations I overhear, songs on the radio... I also belong to a plot group, a group of writers who get together a couple times a year to help each other brainstorm. The other writers in my group are Kate Carlisle, Christine Rimmer, and Teresa Southwick. On Tuesday evening this week, I did a live chat on Facebook to celebrate the release of The Girls of Mischief Bay, and one of my readers made a comment that gave me an idea I'm playing with in my head now. The trick is to go from the spark of an idea to a 400-page book. Not every idea makes the cut.
