Tiffany asked Susan Mallery:

Hello Susan. How do you come up with all these wonderful characters you write about?

Susan Mallery Hi, Tiffany! Thank you so much. I work hard at characterization, to make the reader believe in her heart that the characters live beyond the page, that they are real people in a world outside the book.

When I started thinking about The Girls of Mischief Bay, Shannon was the first character who came to me. I knew her heart, right from the beginning. She’s a business executive approaching 40, and she has realized that she’s getting to an age where if she wants to have kids, she really needs to do something about it. But what? It’s not like she hasn’t been trying. She’s had relationships, but they haven’t worked out. Does she want kids enough to have them by herself and, if so, how would that work? What sacrifices would she have to make in order to be a good mom? She certainly wouldn’t be able to keep working the same hours. Fortunately for Shannon, she’s about to meet a man who can help her answer all those questions.
