Annalise Barry
Annalise Barry asked Brigid Kemmerer:

Hey! I've read the Elementals series more times than is probably healthy, in fact I'm reading it again now and I have recommended the series so many times to the point where people are telling me to be quiet! So I just wanted to ask about the steps you took in creating this story? (e.g. did you write them down, did you know exactly what you wanted the character's to experience from the very start?)

Brigid Kemmerer Thank you so much for loving the Merricks as much as I do! With writing, I tend to write by the seat of my pants. I basically pick a starting scenario (girl walking out of a school and finding a boy getting beaten up) and I have an ultimate conflict in mind (boy's family is marked for death and girl has to save them), and from there, I just start writing.

One of my mantras is, "Allow yourself to suck." There's a delete key. Just start writing. It doesn't have to be perfect right from the start. You can always go back and change it.
