People who ask this question will be embarrassed they did once they read the book. No this isn't the plot of the movie The Last Starfighter, but it's similar - to that and about 6 other sci-fi books and movies. And that's a good thing. Read the book. It should only take you a night or two.

It's a pop culture sci-fi book so yes movies like The Last Starfighter come up. Obviously.
