I loved Six Days in Bombay. I’m stunned (in a good way) on how it led some pieces of my life to fall into place. It takes me back to the healing properties of War & Peace & Tolstoy’s words on writing it:"if I were told would be read in about 20 years time by those who are now children, that they would laugh and cry over it, and love life, I would devote all my own life," Thank you Alka! Pls keep writing. What's next?

Hi Gin!
What a lovely message! My inspiration for Six Days in Bombay, the real-life 1930s painter Amrita Sher-Gil, was such a formidable artist and a formidable personality--defining her own terms for the independent woman she wanted to be--that I knew I couldn’t let her be forgotten along with so many other women whom history has ignored. I hope the novel will help make her a household name :-)
What’s next? A story of a girl in 1920s Jaipur who wants to learn the forbidden dance of Kathak, practiced by the courtesans. It will be out early 2027! Can’t wait for you to read it!
Hugs,
Alka

This might be for the larger group, but I can totally picture this book as a movie. I can see Kangana Ranaut as Parvati Singh, Dev Patel as Dr. Kumar, and maybe up-an-coming actresses as Lakshmi and Radha. This is just a fun way of saying I loved the book, Ms. Alka! Who might you picture in The Henna Artist film?

Hello Ms. Joshi. Your books have meant so much to me as a South Asian woman and aspiring writer myself. I have fallen in love with your writing and really admire the work that you do. I am looking forward to finally reading your third novel. My background is in Public Relations/Communications, but I would love to publish a novel one day. Would you recommend further education in order to achieve this goal? Any advice?

Hi Alka! I'm so late to the party in just reading The Henna Artist, but was swept away. So already have the new book & love that it centers on Malik. How was the beautiful cover was chosen for THA? I was struck when you mentioned BLUE hibiscus! Had never heard of that. Your descriptions are so vivid! What a beautiful paean to your mother this book is. THANK YOU for writing these.
