I really enjoyed your story, and I really liked Hanna. I wanted to ask how did you come up with the idea for the story, and what inspired you to create Hanna? Was she based on someone real, or did she grow from a certain thought or feeling you had?

Hi Olivia! Thank you so much — I’m really glad Hanna resonated with you. She wasn’t based on a specific person, but more on a feeling: what it means to survive something shattering and still try to find your way back to yourself.
Her story came from a mix of questions I couldn’t stop asking — about memory, guilt, and how trauma reshapes the people we become. I wanted to explore how someone could be strong, damaged, protective, and still capable of deep love, even after everything.
And from that space, Hanna emerged. 💙

Sophia, I just have to say, the opening of your book absolutely floored me. The way you describe Hanna’s buried scream and all those memories she tries to file away feels so real. It honestly reads like you lived through those feelings or knew someone who did. How did you get to that level of emotion and truth? Was it from your own experience, stories you’ve heard, or a lot of research? It does not read like fiction.
