Bonnie
Bonnie asked Frances Mayes:

I have always had a passion for travel, and I love that you compare Italy to the south, as I can so see the similarities. The south has a reputation amongst those that are from there as being small minded and anything but worldly, (which I know is incorrect!). The south is also known for family values, and close knit families. What inspired you to write about your southern roots in detail now?

Frances Mayes I moved from San Francisco, where I spent so many years, back to the South and in that process I was interested in how the South had changed so radically and yet was still wonderfully familiar to me. I asked myself, who were we back then, so long ago, way, way South. I wanted write a homage to the place itself, the powerful landscape.
