My husband and I enjoy reading together in the evening, and thanks to one of your previous answers we recently finished Cotillion. Thanks for the recommendation! How had we missed Heyer before? I would guess that her characters and comedy significantly influenced later generations of authors.
Lois McMaster Bujold
Yes, Heyer has been a huge influence on authors in several genres, Romance obviously, but also science fiction, fantasy, and mystery. For an author whose work has never been out of print for over a century (her first book was published in 1917, I believe) she is remarkably overlooked by the sort of people who make up those Important Books of the 20th Century lists. Reasons why left as an exercise for the student.
The two not necessarily mutually exclusive ideas I've seen for why a book/writer is considered great are, a) it is beloved by many people over generational time, or b) it changes how books that come after it are written. Hearts and minds, as it were. Heyer certainly hits both metrics.

Hello, I have kind of a silly question. So, my fiancee and I are planning our wedding, and we have decided to do a "Barrayar" wedding. =) So what we are wondering is could you maybe give us a hint or a more detailed description of the fashion, as you envisioned it? I see it more Austro-Hungarian courtly, and Lucija more Victorian England. All with strong military influence off course. We were just wondering. =) TY

I've created a setting for use in an RPG game with my friends that uses ideas (especially the practical theology), places, and names from your Chalion books. I won't charge money for it or try to gain users beyond my gaming group, but would like to use https://worldanvil.com to organize the setting info. I think this makes it publicly available. Is acceptable to you?

After reading Masquerade in Lodi, I am now rereading all the Penric books, as there were references in the new one that didn't quite ring a bell. And just this morning, a memory popped up. There is a real town called Lodi, in the central valley of California. Were you aware of it? Credence Clearwater even wrote a song about it, with the chorus: Oh Lord, I'm Stuck in Lodi Again. Oh, and THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!
