Goodreads asked J.D. Rhoades:

How do you deal with writer’s block?

J.D. Rhoades The thing is, I started back writing in 1996 (after not doing much of anything creative for 15+ years) by doing a weekly newspaper column. A newspaper editor doesn't want to hear about any damn writer's block. You learn to get your copy in, get your word count filled, and send it. That's the best way to deal with writer's block: don't accept it. Do the work, like any professional.

All that said, when I'm having trouble, I change things up. I write in a different room. I use pen and paper instead of writing on the computer. I go out on the deck or the porch and try to write there. I take a walk. Then I write.
