Goodreads asked J.D. Rhoades:

Where did you get the idea for your most recent book?

J.D. Rhoades One of the major supporting characters in the Jack Keller series has been Oscar Sanchez, an undocumented immigrant who gets caught up in the events of The Devil's Right Hand and becomes Jack's closest male friend. His status as an illegal and his concern for his sons who are still back in Colombia were bound to create a story somewhere down the line. When Jason Pinter at Polis Books asked if I was interested in writing the fourth Keller book, the time seemed right for Oscar's story to come to the forefront. Turns out there's more to mild-mannered Oscar than meets the eye. especially where his family is concerned.
