Somewhere where highly powered magical beings AREN'T trying to kill or enslave me. So no Middle Earth, no Narnia, no Oz, no Hogwarts, and sure as hell not Westeros.

Adrian McKinty, I HEAR THE SIRENS IN THE STREET; Rob Hart, SOUTH VILLAGE and THE WOMAN FROM PRAGUE; Bill Bryson, THE ROAD TO LITTLE DRIBBLING; and whatever else on my shelf or Kindle queue that strikes my fancy.

The thing is, I started back writing in 1996 (after not doing much of anything creative for 15+ years) by doing a weekly newspaper column. A newspaper editor doesn't want to hear about any damn writer's block. You learn to get your copy in, get your word count filled, and send it. That's the best way to deal with writer's block: don't accept it. Do the work, like any professional.
All that said, when I'm having trouble, I change things up. I write in a different room. I use pen and paper instead of writing on the computer. I go out on the deck or the porch and try to write there. I take a walk. Then I write.

One of the major supporting characters in the Jack Keller series has been Oscar Sanchez, an undocumented immigrant who gets caught up in the events of The Devil's Right Hand and becomes Jack's closest male friend. His status as an illegal and his concern for his sons who are still back in Colombia were bound to create a story somewhere down the line. When Jason Pinter at Polis Books asked if I was interested in writing the fourth Keller book, the time seemed right for Oscar's story to come to the forefront. Turns out there's more to mild-mannered Oscar than meets the eye. especially where his family is concerned.
